Motel RCRC

First big idea is to open a Motel RCRC in NYC. This gives a reliable place for the ARCGNY to put people up in the event of a disaster or vacate. It will have a certain percentage of rooms available to everyday tourists and out of towners. The hotel bills of these people will fund the venture. Tourists get a clean room and the satisfaction of knowing that their money is going towards the ARC and the nice people down the hall. The victims of disaster and displacement get the opportunity to stay somewhere nicer than the Bronx Park Motel. (Which charges by the hour.)

This could be really interesting, as it could open up new ways for the RC to engage with their clients. I don’t know what agreements they have with their current hotels and if they get the rooms donated. If they don’t there is room here for a new model of sheltering (both temporary and emergency) and new kind of architecture different to the usual hotel model. But if they do then I don’t know if the RC want to go into the hotel and hospitality business.

This is a very interesting idea. People wishing to stay there with some sort of philanthropy in mind could even have the opportunity to volunteer themselves in return for a greater discount or some other incentive (along the lines of the eco-tourism model).
